Replace Missing Teeth
A Denture is used to replace a missing tooth or teeth. Not only does it improve appearance but it also aids function. You can have a partial denture to replace a few teeth or a full denture which replaces all the teeth in the jaw. Dentures are commonly made of acrylic but can be made of other materials such as cobalt chrome or vinyl.
Denture Care
Denture Care
Remove your dentures every night before you go to sleep to allow the soft tissues in your mouth to rest.
Keep your dentures moist, either in some water or dampened cotton wool/tissue overnight, which prevents the material drying out and changing shape.
Ensure you brush your existing twice daily, using a fluoride toothpaste to help keep your mouth healthy.
It is important to clean your dentures to remove plaque and food deposits. To do this you can use a toothbrush, twice daily, as you would for natural teeth, this is important especially if you use your dentures with a fixative glue. Unclean dentures can cause bad breath, gum disease, tooth decay and oral thrush. Our dental team can advise you on what denture cleaning products will suit your denture.
Continue to see your dentist regularly, even if you have lost all your natural teeth, as the dentist will be able to monitor the fit of your denture and look for any changes and monitor the health of your soft tissues.
Denture Care Treatments
Can be used to produce full or partial dentures. A partial cobalt chrome denture uses strength clasps, which can be metal, pink or a natural colour, to clip onto the natural teeth and provides stability. They offer superb strength and are considerably less ‘bulky’ in the mouth compared to the acrylic version.
Made out of acrylic resin, which can be tinted pink to match the gumline. They are a well known option for full and partial dentures. One of the many benefits of acrylic dentures is that they can be easily adjusted and changed, should more teeth need to be added. They offer a good balance of functionality along with appearance. Metal can also be added to increased the strength if necessary.
Dental Implants are used to anchor a denture in place. Dental implants are titanium screws, which are placed into the jaw bone by a dental implant surgeon, under local aesthetic here in the dental surgery. They allow excellent retention and for some patients can be life changing. If you wish to find out more about Implant retained dentures you can either book in with Chris or our Dental implant surgeon Dr Jagprit Hear for a FREE consultation.
This type of Denture are produced using a lightweight, nylon resin which allows the denture to flex and contour to the shape of your mouth whilst eating and speaking, therefore providing good retention. They are generally smaller than other types and have no bulky palate making it feel light and comfortable to wear.
A replica Denture can be created using your existing set. It is a technique that takes into consideration the shape, colour and size and produces a replica set with a new surface which provides a better fit. It can be the perfect technique for patients who have been happy with their existing dentures but due to changes in the mouth and general wear and tear now find them uncomfortable to wear.
